THE PROJECT
In our program, you'll follow the Pixar process to create a storyreel of your own short film.

A storyreel is a rough draft of an animated film using drawings edited together in a sequence. Every Pixar film begins as a storyreel.
HOW IT WORKS
Each week, you will work toward a final storyreel with a deliverable that mimics Pixar’s process.

Q

Are there any geographical restrictions?

A

Our program is open to all people regardless of the country they reside in, but note that we currently only offer support for English.

  • Participants give and receive feedback via their weekly submission gallery—either the youth gallery or the adult gallery.

  • Moderators review feedback before it’s posted.

  • Participants will be notified whenever feedback is available to view.

A

Don't worry! Recordings are posted on Monday night, and session highlights are made available by Tuesday morning.

Q

A

Great! You can work through this program with a team or as an individual.

  • We do not assist with team assignments. Participants create their own team.

  • Participants can invite others to register and add other participants to their team at any time.

  • Participants registered by a school or organization will be assigned to a team by the person who registers them for the program.

Q

Do I need any materials?

A

Participants will need access to the following:

  • a device with an internet connection

  • a pencil and paper or some other drawing tool

  • a phone, camera, or scanner to capture your artwork digitally

  • a simple video editing program

Q

What happens at the end of the program?

A

  • At the end of the program, participants will submit their final storyreels to the online Exhibition Gallery.

  • Each team will have their own dedicated page showcasing their final storyreel.

  • There, participants will vote to determine peer recognition awards as well as the chance to receive a reaction video from an industry expert.

Q

What type of support will facilitators receive during the program?

A

  • We provide dedicated support for facilitators, including an online orientation, a facilitator dashboard, a message board, and 24/7 email support at help@storyxperience.com.

  • We also offer live video and voice calls to debug any issues before and during the program.

  • The facilitator dashboard provides an overview of team progress, early access to weekly curriculum, and PDFs for the program and its assignments.

Q

What are my time commitments?

A

We estimate participants will need roughly 3-5 hours of time each week:

  • 1 hour to attend the weekly livestream

  • 2-4 hours to work on your project

  • 30 minutes to provide feedback for your peers

Q

What type of guidance will participants receive?

A

  • During livestreams, Pixar story artists provide participants with their insights into storytelling and filmmaking, share their personal stories and paths to Pixar, and answer participant questions.

  • Weekly lessons will include engaging exercises and videos that support each week’s assignment.

  • Participants receive weekly peer feedback to guide their story development and revisions.

  • Participants can post questions to the community message board at any time.

  • Participants can also email help@storyxperiential.com for any additional support.

Q

Does Story Xperiential require facilitation?

A

Xperiential is designed to work effectively in both facilitated and unfacilitated settings. Youth participants could benefit from facilitator support, but it isn't a requirement, and there are some youths that flourish in more independent environments.

Q

What makes Story Xperiential unique?

A

  • Story Xperiential is focused on improvement—we aren't just giving you a lesson plan and calling it a day. We're constantly iterating and working to offer you the best experience we possibly can.

  • No more pre-recorded video lessons—through our weekly live sessions, you learn directly from Pixar story artists, allowing you to ask questions and gain insight into the behind-the-scenes of the animation industry.

  • Our program is designed flexibly to accomodate any learning style or schedule, and whether you want to work in teams or independently, it's up to you.

  • We're powered by peer feedback and collaboration. Our gallery supports interactivity on a whole new level to strengthen everyone's work.

  • This program is entirely focused on helping you do your best work! Participants will produce a storyreel that they'll be able add to their professional portfolio.

  • It's the 21st century. The world is constantly evolving, so we work to offer the modern skills important for college, career, and life readiness.
