Week 5

I can't help but get lost in your story especially when the art and storyboarding is so strong. Amazing job! From what I've gathered about Sebas, he seems to be a very systematic, prepared and planned-out person. I predict that he will be forced to go off-script, let loose, and improvise in order to create the winning cupcake at the bake-off. If that was your plan, then I think Act 1 will serve your story well. If not, think about how to steer your audience towards your idea. What are Sebas's fears? Will he have to face them? What obstacles stand in his way of winning the bake-off? Things like this could help strengthen your Act 1 and make Act 2 seem seamless and intentional. Amazing work!!

Storm Hero - Act 1

WOW!! Your art and composition are so strong and convey character and emotion amazingly! I especially love the intentionality of the colors against the black and white. Story-wise, this serves as a great Act 1. It sets up a character and one of his goals: to make the best open-world video game, but also hints that he is repressing his superpowers. That makes me question: what about his superpower causes him to repress it? Does his video game pose a threat to these criminals, or is it his powers? I would clarify these things in Act one so that Act 2 has more of a basis to rest on. Otherwise, AMAZING work. I'm so impressed.

What if

Great ideas! I love the theme of gold within this group. The idea that stood out to me was "what if people shared gold." Humans are notorious for being greedy and stingy with wealth, so I think this is a really cool way to show humility and selflessness in a situation that can be so easily exploited. How are the two miners different? But more importantly, how are they similar? Does one have an unfair advantage over the other? What motivates that miner to share their gold? How does the less fortunate miner feel after failing to succeed? So many routes that you could take, and lots of moral topics too. Great work!

What if…

AWWW. I'm so in love with all of your ideas! The one that spoke the most to me was "what if humans gave birth to plants." Just hearing that sparked so many ideas in my mind that made me excited to watch a short film about it. In my mind, the plants are a symbol of parenting and providing the basic needs to develop and grow. But parenting is so much more than giving your child food and water. How do the parents show love and affection to the plants? Do they have expectations for them? What happens when its time for the plants to grow up and be independent? Are there ideals for what a "perfect" plant should be? So much room to explore. Amazing job, I can't wait to see what you end up developing!

What If Life Happens

Such cool ideas!!! For me, my favorite is the last idea. It made me want to see more, and most importantly, made me ask questions. Does every person in the world have the ability to see these colors? How do the characters respond to these different danger signals? Are there any surprising objects/people that are dangerously colored? So many cool routes that you could take with this idea. Amazing work!

What If?

Super cool ideas! My favorite would have to be the last idea because of how many paths you could take with it. Is this boy the only person to have the elemental powers? Does he decide to use them for good or evil (or maybe both)? How did he get these powers and is it possible for him to lose them? The only thing I'd make sure of is that you don't get too close in concept to other existing works. How can you take this concept and completely make it your own? Great job!

Three What if's

Wow. I love all of your ideas. I nearly got chills at the shadow idea. It appeals to me because of how it flips the scary, menacing, dark-sided reputation of shadows and turns them into compassionate beings. There are so many ways you could develop this idea. How do the shadows feel knowing that no one acknowledges their attempts to comfort? Do they feel judged by society's view on shadows? Do the humans they comfort recognize their kindness, or are they neglected and thrown under the rug? So many emotions that you could evoke. So excited to see which story you choose and how you develop it!

What if Teaser

These ideas are so good! I got chills for the "what if your soulmate was your enemy" idea. There are so many possible routes that this story could go. Is there a redemption arc? How do the soulmates meet each other? Why do they hate each other? How do they feel knowing that their soulmate isn't a romantic partner/friend? I'm so excited to see where you take your stories. Amazing work and amazing art!

Week 1 What ifs

Wow, your ideas are so creative! I'd say my favorite idea is the pillow fort one. Just based off of this short sentence, I could imagine so many possibilities that really feel like a Pixar short. It makes me wonder about the characters that build/play in the fort. What's their background information? Maybe they use their imagination to escape their boring world. Do they want to change something about themselves and try to achieve that with their imagination? What kind of world do they escape to? How would they change as a result of transporting worlds? So many good ideas. Amazing work!

Rokai What Ifs

All of your ideas are so insanely creative! I'd say my favorite two were "what if the elements had their own souls and personalities," and "what if a lab-tested kangaroo became an intelligent cyborg." Between those two, I think I am most drawn to the kangaroo concept. What was being lab tested on the kangaroo? Were they being tormented? Did the kangaroo escape? Does it feel resentment towards humans for hurting/testing it or is it still compassionate and friendly? So many cool routes that you can take with this and really evoke emotion from the audience. Amazing job! (And amazing art! :))
